Review Of Larry Weldon Bailey @ Amazon.com

There's nothing wrong with Burkett's and Whitley's research, December 28, 2003
Gary Wright could have avoided all this difficulty if he had simply responded to Burkett's attempts to confirm his Viet Nam service. Wright, for whatever reason, refused to provide Burkett the information that would have avoided the ensuing confusion. It appears that Wright tried to make a case that he was a VN veteran when he was not and simply avoided having to admit that he was not.

Mr. Burkett and Ms. Whitley have done the country a great service in writing "Stolen Valor." The Wright incident in no way detracts from their diligent pursuit of the truth; only Gary Wright knows why he failed to assist Burkett and Whitley in their search for the "real Gary Wright."

WOW!!!!! Bailey Has Totally Misrepresented The “TRUTH” Here & Is Yet Another LIAR!!!

The “TRUE FACTS” Of This Matter Can Be Summed Up With A Review Of The Book “STOLEN VALOR” At Amazon.com By Mister Nigel N. Brooks, A Vietnam Veteran From Texas.

Burkett and Whitley's research questionable, September 17, 2002

Reviewer:Nigel N. Brooks (Texas USA) -

On page 585 of Stolen Valor, Burkett refers to the 1986 photo of Wright at the Vietnam memorial and also mentions Wright's father.

"Col. Gary Wright, the father, was indeed shot down over Vietnam and remains missing in action," the book states. "But after a search of military records, I could find no indication that his son, Gary Gene Wright Jr., was a Vietnam veteran or indeed ever served at all in the military."

Wright, 46, said he was shocked when told by friends that his reputation was attacked in the book. He said he sent military documents to Burkett and had Navy friends call the author to back up his story.

Burkett said he never received anything definitive from Wright and insisted his conclusions about him were correct.

"I attempted to find a military record for him and couldn't find anything," Burkett said. "He provided me nothing to contradict that."

Mike McLellan, a public affairs officer at the Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tenn., almost immediately found a military record for Wright.

"I can confirm that he was in the Navy," McLellan said. "That's iron-clad as far as I'm concerned, and I would take that to court."

a fax from the records center in St. Louis revealed the details of Wright's military career, including a stint in January 1974 in VA 155, an attack squadron assigned at the time to the USS Oriskany.

When told of those findings, Burkett acknowledged that Wright probably was in the Navy. But he continued to insist Wright hadn't served on the Oriskany or in the Vietnam War.

But using other Navy records, McLellan was able to cross-reference the dates of Wright's service in VA 155 with the travels of the Oriskany, and he ascertained that Wright had indeed served on the ship when it launched attacks on Vietnam.

"I can't see it any other way," McLellan said. "This Wright fella is telling you the truth."

Additionally, Navy veteran Willie Farmer of Carrollton, Ga., said he worked hand-in-hand with Wright on the Oriskany. Farmer, 50, said Wright was "sort of a nerdy fella," but he liked him anyway.

Whitley has been contacted in the past by veterans who have prompted her to correct the record, but Whitley thus far has refused to do so. Burkett and Whitley's refusal to correct the record casts question over their research and most certainly detracts from the basic premise of the book.

The honourable thing to do would be to redact any reference whatsoever to Mr Wright from future editions of the book - his continued inclusion serves no useful purpose.

THE TRUTH & THE FACTS

I First Heard About My Name In The Book Stolen Valor From The Daughter Of Another POW/MIA And I Emailed Glenna Whitley To Ask Why They Had Printed Lies About Me In Their Book. It Is Important To Note Here That I INITIATED CONTACT With Her, The Co-Author Of The Book. Prior To The Publication Of The Book, I Was Never Contacted By Her Or The Author BG Burkett. Whitley Asked Me To Send Them Documentation That I Was In The Service And Said They Would Then Correct The Book.

I Discussed The Matter With My Good Friend Darryl Young Who Was With SEAL Team One In Vietnam, Told Me I Should Talk To Retired Navy SEAL Captain Larry Bailey. I Did Discuss The Matter With Larry Bailey And Went Over Several Documents From My Service Record That He Agreed Should Prove My Service To Whitley & Burkett. I Told Bailey That I Was Placing White Out Tape Over My Service Number But Otherwise The Documents Were Not Altered In Any Way. Seven Different Documents Plus Photos Of Me On Active Duty Were Sent To Glenna Whitley. She & Burkett Refused To Accept The Documents And Have Since Maintained That They Were Right & I Was Never In The Service.

Since That Time They Have Heard From Family Members, Veterans I Served With & To Be Honest, Even A Few People I Don’t Get Along With That They Were Wrong About Me!

Has The Record Changed? Have They Apologized?  “NO”!!!

The Cover Of This Book Is Why Burkett Included Me In His Book!

Burkett Has Tried To Say I Represented Myself As A Vietnam Veteran In This Picture. At The Time, I Was Helping Out At The Veterans Vigil At The Vietnam Memorial In Washington DC & The Hat I Am Wearing Was Given To Me By Them. All Of The Pins On The Hat Were Given To Me (A POW/MIA Son) By Veterans Who Were Visiting The Wall And Asked Me To Wear Their Pins. I Have A Picture That Was Taken When The Hat Was Almost 100% Covered That Could Be Provided, And For All The Burketts Out There Let Me Just Say:

NO I WASN’T IN ALL THOSE UNITS!!!!!

I Have Never Ever Represented Myself To Be Other Than What I Am. A US Navy Vietnan “Era” Veteran!

BG Burkett, Glenna Whitley & Their Spokes Model Larry Bailey Are LIARS Wherever They Say Otherwise.

I Challenge Them All Here And Now To Show Otherwise!

I Got An Email From A Retired Army Colonel I Know Several Years Ago. He Told Me That When He Heard That I Was Mentioned In The Book Stolen Valor, He Wrote Them Telling Them They Were Wrong About Me.

How Would He Know? Here Are His Credentials:

Joe Schlatter, Colonel, U. S. Army, Retired

Feb 86 - Dec 88:  Chief, Analysis Branch, Defense Intelligence Agency  Special Office for POW-MIA Affairs

Dec 88 - Jul 90:  Chief,  Defense Intelligence Agency Special Office for POW-MIA Affairs

July 1993 - March 1995:  Deputy Director, Defense POW-MIA Office

Vietnam Veteran
2/13 Field Artillery
February 1969 - February 1970

By His Credentials And In His Position At The At The DIA, Col. Schlatter Knew My Family And Me Through Our Records There And Because Of This He Knew I Had Been In The Navy.

Soooo…..If They Have Been Given Proof & Testament From Others They Are Wrong...Why No Change?

In My Opinion It Is Because,  If They Acknowledge That They Were Wrong About Me Then It Would Call Into Question Their “Research Techniques” And As Burkett Put It When He Threatened To Sue The Jacksonville Times Union…”Greatly Diminish His Ability To Make Money As A Speaker”!! After All, If They Are Wrong About Me…..How Many Others Have They Been Wrong About? How Many Others Have They Refused To Accept Proof From? Could I Really Be The Only One?

Why Did He Threaten To Sue The Jacksonville Times Union?

The Reporter Made A Few Mistakes In The Story And A Second Story Was Done As Per The Threats!

BG Burkett Has Written A Book Where He Wants People To Tell The Truth. Something That He, His Co-Author Glenna Whitley & Larry Bailey Cannot Do Themselves! For Those Who Place These People Above Reproach, I Can Only Feel Pity That They Need That Crutch!   They Have Had “YEARS” To Resolve This Matter & Refuse.

If You Have Been A Victim Of These Liars, Or Know Of Someone Who Has…..

A mistake in a book is Understandable.

Multiple mistakes in a book are Questionable.

Refusal to correct the mistakes & make it right is Irresponsible.

To allow these mistakes to remain in their book and refuse to correct them while calling oneself an “expert” is nothing more than a LIAR.

Burkett & Whitley are nothing more than what they accuse others of,

LIARS!!!

What do you think an honorable & honest person would have done?
